In the heart of suburban New Jersey, West Windsor is an upscale, diverse community adjacent to Princeton. The West Windsor community is home to over 27,000 residents and is considered one of the most affluent communities in the U.S. In 2009, West Windsor was named the number one town in which to raise a family by the Neighborhood Scout Association. From West Windsor, one can easily commute to either Philadelphia or New York City. It's also very close to Princeton. Hop on the “Dinky” and in just fifteen minutes you can enjoy all the shopping and dining that Princeton has to offer. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite before getting on the train, or looking for that special candle-lit experience, you’ll find what you’re craving in West Windsor. When the weather warms, locals stroll through the West Windsor Farmer’s Market for locally raised produce. Plus, since West Windsor encourages small businesses, there’s frequently someplace new to eat or shop in West Windsor.
Parks and Recreation
In addition to public parks and playing fields, the West Windsor community also has an aquatic facility open to the public when the weather warms up. “WaterWorks at West Windsor” located in the West Windsor Community Park features an eight lane, twenty-five meter lap swim pool, a 1,700 square foot wading pool with fun fountains, changing rooms, concessions and a two-story water slide. Needless to say, the family aquatic facility is a great place to meet friends when the weather gets hot in West Windsor.
Schools, Health, and Transportation
The West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District serves students residing in both West Windsor and the Plainsboro Township. The district has four K-3 elementary schools, two schools for fourth and fifth graders, two middle schools and two high schools. In the area of health care, the nearest hospital is the University Medical Center at Princeton just a few miles north of West Windsor.
For commuters and travelers, West Windsor has become part of the world-class transportation system found in the New York City/Philadelphia corridor. A beloved feature of local transportation is the “Dinky,” a one-car train between Princeton and West Windsor’s Princeton Junction station, built in 1865. The Dinky is considered the shortest regularly scheduled commuter rail trip in America, at 2.7 miles.
